Wes Welker Suspended 4 Games for Amphetamines

More unintended rest for Wes Welker’s concussion.

Looks like Peyton Manning’s wide receiver core has suffered a bit of a setback to start the season. Adam Schefter reports that Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker will be out for the span of four games after testing positive for amphetamines.

Welker was out already because of a concussion he received a concussion during the pre-season, and even though he returned to practice, he was still going through the NFL’s protocol for such injuries and had not yet been cleared for contact in the upcoming Broncos season opener this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

Even though Welker is Manning’s favorite target, the Broncos will have to rely on the play of Demayrius Thomas, Julius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, who replaced Eric Decker this off-season. The only other receivers on the Denver depth chart are rookies Isaiah Burse from Fresno State and Cody Latimer from Indiana. We’ll see who steps up in Wes’ absence.

All you cats with Welker in your fantasy drafts, good luck with that.
