USA Basketball Routes Serbia to Win 2014 FIBA World Cup Gold

USA closes out the FIBA 2014 World Cup with 129-92 win over Serbia

Chris Paul may still be the best point guard in the world, but Kyrie Irving is making a push for overtaking those honors with recent play for Team USA. The Men’s National Team completed their sweep of the 2014 FIBA World Cup, defeating Serbia to capture GOLD once again. However, Serbia was winning in the early stages of the first quarter; but Kyrie would score 15 points alone in the period, to give his team motivation heading forward.

With Irving still showing out for his former coach, he would soon earn FIBA World Cup MVP honors. While going 6-for-6 from deep, he would also lead all scorers with 26 points for USA to become the third country ever to win back-to-back FIBA titles. Even with Kevin Durant, Paul George and Kevin Love all out of action, many are viewing USA as a lock to win the 2016 Olympic games and capture yet another GOLD medal.

Since 2006, Team USA has won 63 consecutive games under the Coach K and Jerry Colangelo era. Now with no more concerns regarding their front court, the bigs Anthony Davis, Kenneth Faried and DeMarcus Cousins all have been providing the most consistent production on the team.
