The first of many MVP awards set to invade the town!

For the second time ever, a non-Los Angeles Laker team on the West coast has won NBA MVP honors since Bill Walton achieved the accomplishment with his Portland Trail Blazers in 1978. More importantly, the new 2015 NBA Most Valuable Player became the only other point guard not named Magic Johnson to lead a team in scoring with at least 65 wins in a single season – as well as first Warrior since Wilt Chamberlain in 1960 to helm the award.

Following Golden State’s 15-point edge over Memphis to win game one of their conference semi-finals series, CSN Bay Area soon reported after the game that Curry will be formally awarded the Maurice Podoloff Trophy Monday afternoon. Steph’s currently leading all players in post-season scoring at 34 a game but finished 6th among all players in the regular season with only 24. James Harden, who was in a neck-and-neck race with Curry finished second among all voters, as his Houston Rockets are set to host game one of their second-round match-up Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers. While holding up the Larry O’Brien Trophy next month is the ultimate goal for Curry, he can enjoy this brief accomplishment on his day off from the court.
