He becomes the first player to fall in penalty under the new NFL domestic violence policy.

Not even a week after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell implemented harsher penalties against domestic violence with a new policy, San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald was arrested and jailed early Sunday morning after a disturbance call.

Police answered a call at 2:48 am PST in San Jose and McDonald was taken in shortly after, remaining in the custody of the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department.

The 49ers upcoming season is about to look like…

Pending investigation and conviction, McDonald becomes the first player to be charged for domestic violence, and can face a minimum of six-game suspension for his first offense. If it happens again, the league can ban him for life.

The latest news surrounding the 49ers comes only days after the NFL suspended Aldon Smith for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and conduct rules. This puts an extra strain on that defensive line and leaves more questions surrounding the upcoming San Francisco defense only one week before the season begins.
