Ray Allen Opts To Not Play 2015 NBA Season

NBA: Toronto Raptors at Miami Heat

No retirement this year for the sharp shooter

Throughout the duration of the entire 2015 season, deadly three-point shooter Ray Allen has been the constant target (no pun intended) from many coaches and GMs for roster upgrading. Allen, who turns 40 this July, has not played in a single game since losing game 5 of the NBA Finals last year with the Miami Heat.

While it’s been rumored that Shuttlesworth was set to follow LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers last year, Ray has revealed his plans to sit out this season in a brief press release statement. At the moment, He’s still residing in Miami with family and is training to stay in shape for an imminent return to the court next year.

Whether the Ohio destination is happening remains to be seen, but Pat Riley has quickly rejuvenated the Miami Heat’s future with acquiring Goran Dragić at the trade deadline and the emergence of Hassan Whiteside. With Chris Bosh returning next year from missing this season due to blood clots in his lungs, Miami seems like a sexier and logical destination with players, coaches and staff he’s familiar with.

“Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me,” Allen said. “I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming off-season, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season.”
