Last night, the Philadelphia 76ers honored Allen Iverson with an official jersey retirement ceremony. The festivities took place during the Sixers half-time break, as the crowd needed something to cheer for this season; with their team having the 2nd worst record in the league at only 15 wins. Dressed in all-black, Iverson was introduced with the Philly faithful chanting “M.V.P.” during the guard’s emotional speech.

Along with showing appreciating for family, teammates and former coaches, Allen went to thank Michael Jordan before anyone in his closing statements; and even former associate Steven A. Smith among others he publicly buried the hatchet with. His number 3 jersey now joins Charles Barkely, Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Wilt Chamberlain, Maurice Cheeks, Hal Greer, Bobby Jones, Billy Cunningham and P.A. announcer Dave Zinkoff, as the newest sixer legend to see his name raised above. The future first-ballot hall-of-famer will now be stepping away from the game forever and is set to join the team’s front office in the near future.
