The Mets take the advantage

The most interesting stat of the night would have to be the fact that over 70% of teams who win Game 1 of the NLDS go on to win the series. That’s not good news for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who hosted the New York Mets and watched them steal Game 1 for right under them with a 3-1 win at Dodgers Stadium.

In a pitching match between Clayton Kershaw and Jacob deGrom that was supposed to lean towards L.A., it was actually the New York pitcher who came up victorious in his postseason debut, striking out 13 batters on the night, tying a franchise record. He was absolutely unhittable, retiring the last 11 batters he faced on the mound. DeGrom only gave up five hits in 7 scoreless innings.

As for Kershaw, he had 11K’s on the night, but was pulled in the 7th with bases loaded. Pedro Baez ended up coming into the game and gave up two runs with two outs, extending the lead for the Mets.

It was David Wright who singled to center field in crunch time and brought home Lucas Duda and Ruben Tejada, to put the Mets up 3-1.

At the end of the day, the Dodgers could not pull up enough offense to get things going on the night, leaving runners on base and not taking advantage of opportunities.

Game 2 of the NLDS will be played tomorrow 9:07 p.m. ET on TBS.
