NFL Asks Rihanna, Coldplay & Katy Perry To Pay For Super Bowl Performance

Come on, get real NFL.

It seems like attracting more viewers isn’t enough for the NFL. Now they want a cut of tour earnings and/or payment to perform in the Super Bowl Halftime Show. According to The Wall Street Journal, the league asked front-runners for this year’s show (Rihanna, Coldplay and Katy Perry) if they would rather cut them in for a portion of what they’d sell on tour following the show or if they would rather pay to play.

At least that’s what they’re proposing this year.

Usually, the artists who perform at the Super Bowl don’t get paid anything because of the exposure they’re gaining (last year, 115.3 million viewers tuned in to watch Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers), plus cover travel and production expenses.

As you’d expect, the artists weren’t all too thrilled with the idea. We’re guessing the NFL needs to chalk this one up in the ‘bad idea’ category and regroup because it is unlikely any artist actually signs up for this.
