Although MLB opening night was Sunday, the first official day for 2014 MLB season action was Monday. The Pittsburgh Pirates held their home opener earlier today, which team legend Barry Bonds presented center fielder Andrew McCutchen with the 2013 NL MVP award for their opening day ceremonies. During the top of the 5th inning, Major League Baseball would see the first ever replay challenge (mind you, we’re in 2014 right?), during the Pirates first game of the season against the Chicago Cubs. In a routine 6-4-3 double play, Cubs skipper Dale Sveum challenged whether his starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija was out at first base. Ironically, the Cubs would sadly lose their challenge, as the play was upheld.

Check after the jump to witness the league’s first replay challenge, which will hopefully change the way the game of Baseball is played from here on out.
