The Charlotte Hornets playoffs hopes are in jeopardy
Following a pre-season game over the weekend, the Charlotte Hornets have learned their starting forward and former defensive player of the year candidate, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, will be out for the next six months. During a game against the Orlando Magic, M.K.G. suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder, which was the biggest fear teammates and trainers had when he went down.
While some may feel the loss of Kidd-Gilchrist isn’t as serious to the franchise as scorer would be, due to his lack of offensive contributions, M.K.G. is essentially the best wing-defender on the team and can even stretch to the four at times as well for their nightly schemes on the hardwood.
The Hornets, who don’t have a rim protector, had success last year through Michael’s one-on-one defense against the opposing team’s best scorer every night. Now without perimeter defense, this now puts a major threat on the Hornets even making the post-season next April.
