Kevin Love Is Trying To Find His Game in Cleveland

NBA: Preseason-Milwaukee Bucks at Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cavs need to improve

Every basketball fan knew going into the season that as much as the media hyped up the new “Big 3” in Cleveland, it would take some growing pains to find the chemistry and get the ball rolling (see: Miami Heat‘s first season with LeBron James, Chris Bosh & Dwyane Wade).

With a core of All-Stars and the pressure of winning, the Cavs haven’t quite lived up to expectations to start the year, currently sitting at 5-5 for the season. We are only 10 games deep into the season, though. Kevin Love knew coming to LeBron’s city would mean he would take a backseat in production to him an Kyrie Irving, but it seems like he’s struggling a little more than he expected.

Not being the first option is not something he’s not used to doing in his career.

“It’s come to a point where I’m just trying to find myself in this offense. It’s almost related to when you come into the league; usually the guys that dominate the ball so much tend to learn a lot quicker than a guy like myself, a big man. So, I’m just trying to find different spots in the offense.

I’ll just say we’re 10 games in, we’re looking at different stuff. I need to find myself. I think everybody knew coming in that we’d have to sacrifice, but at some point we’re going to need some low-post scoring and some outside shooting.

Both ends of the floor, I think I need to step up, but as far as getting into a rhythm, it’s been tough.”

No one will deny Love is an elite player in the league, but his numbers show he’s only shooting 39% from the field only a few weeks into the season.

At times it feels like he’s not even involved, considering King James will take over an entire quarter to bring the team back to life. As a collective, the Cavs need to work on more than just getting KL the rock. Improving on the defensive side of the ball is also at the top of the list.

How long will it take for them to get their act together? The jury is still out.
