JAY Z Signs Miguel Cotto to Roc Nation Sports

Miguel Cotto talks Manny Pacquiao & Floyd Mayweather Fight

Since becoming an agent in 2013, rapper/mogul JAY Z is trying to make his Roc Nation Sports management company a legitimate agency for athletes to join. With Kevin Durant, Skylar Diggins and Robinson Canó as some of the stand-out athletes on the brand, Miguel Cotto becomes the next marque name to join JAY Z’s staple.

At the age of 34 still in his prime, Cotto has an impressive 39-4 record, with two of those losses to both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. During an interview with ESPN today, Miguel gave his two cents on the upcoming May fight, which he expects Pacman’s speed to be the deciding factor in an upset victory over Money Mayweather. While many will call this blasphemous, Cotto’s opinion holds more weight than arguably anybody living, since he’s been in the ring with both fighters. He currently holds the WBC, Lineal and The Ring Middleweight titles and is being touted to fight Amir Khan for the long-awaited Throne Boxing event in New York City.

The bigger news of this announcement, however, is Cotto initially had plans to re-sign with Top Rank, Inc., who currently are no. 2 behind Golden Boy Promotions. It’s being rumored that JAY Z’s Throne Boxing is already in advanced talks with HBO, which could have them in an internal feud within the Time Warner imprint. Look for more details to emerge in the coming weeks regarding Cotto’s next major opponent.

@CottoPromotions and I are proud to become partners with @RocNation – big things coming! #WarCotto
