Caron Butler Recounts That Time Gilbert Arenas Pulled a Gun on Teammate

The entire Gilbert Arenas & Javaris Crittenton Gun Standoff is revealed

Before Gilbert Arenas became exiled from the NBA, he had one of the greatest active careers of any player – alongside the likes of Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki and LeBron James.

His former teammate, Caron Butler is releasing a tell-all book about his life in the NBA; and one of the biggest recaps is the infamous Gilbert Arenas gun incident. During December 2009, the former superstar pulled a gun on fellow teammate Javaris Crittenton after a $1,100 game of poker.

Gilbert, at the time who had a $111 million dollar contract with the Wizards, lost the game to Javaris and was trying to get out of paying him on a plane ride home. The two teammates argued throughout the entire trip, which didn’t stop after the flight landed. According to Butler, both payers exited the private red eye and made verbal weapon threats to each other.

While the teammates may have laughed at the situation, both players were serious about seeing one another at team practice the next day, as Arenas confronted him with a selection of guns in the locker room. Take a look at the interview and quotes above with Butler in the Washington Post.

The team initially arguing over the $1,100 pot.
“Put the money back. Put the fucking money back.”
“I ain’t putting shit back,” Gilbert replied. “Get it the way Tyson got the title. Might or fight or whatever you got to do to get your money back. Otherwise, you ain’t gettin’ it.”
“Hey, everybody shut the fuck up. How much was in the pot?”

Gilbert and Javaris arguing on the flight back home after their card game.
“I’ll see your ass at practice and you know what I do,” Gilbert said.
“What the fuck you mean, you know what I do?” replied Javaris.
“I play with guns.”
“Well I play with guns, too.”

The next day in practice when Arenas and Crittenton brought guns to practice.
“Hey, mother fucker, come pick one,” Gilbert told Javaris while pointing to the weapons. “I’m going to shoot your ass with one of these.”
“Oh no, you don’t need to shoot me with one of those,” said Javaris, turning around slowly like a gunslinger in the Old West. “I’ve got one right here.”
