In 1995, Raekwon released his official debut studio album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… – which at the time garnered nearly flawless reviews from critics and became a timeless project to listeners of the WU. Over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, Raekwon & Ghostface Killah premiered the official trailer for their upcoming documentary, The Purple Tape Files. Now 20 years later, the two open up on how the signature purple tape changed the landscape of hip-hop and also influence nearly every rapper to follow.
Along with the Wu-Tang clan featured in the trailer, Quincy Jones and Nas offer words of wisdom how important the Purple Tape still is. While the project is set to have another sneak peek preview February 7th in Los Angeles, we’re patiently waiting for an official theatrical release date across the states.
