OS Flashback: Freeway – What We Do (feat. Jay-Z & Beanie Sigel)

Can you believe that Freeway’s debut album Philadelphia Freeway was released 10 years ago to the day? Back in 2003 when State Property had the rap game in a chokehold. The Roc-A-Fella release was mostly produced by Just Blaze (Kanye West & Bink! too) and spawned the single “What We Do” with Hov & Beans, as well as the party starter “Flipside.”

We still remember hearing a few tracks from the album on mixtapes before hand (“Free” mixtape version was different than the album intro), bringing the likes of Snoop Dogg, Faith Evans, Nate Dogg, Jay-Z, Nelly and more all for the project. “Alright” with Allen Anthony was probably one of the tracks that got the most burn from us.

For the visual to “What We Do,” Free brought various characters from HBO’s The Wire (Boadie, what up!) for the video, really setting this shit off for the debut single. We still remember watching this come on BET like it was yesterday.

So as you go about the rest of your day today, spin Philadelphia Freeway and go back to State Prop back ’03 for Freeway one time.
