Kendrick Lamar Explains “i” In The Midst of Nationwide Protests

Knowledge of self

Being at the top of his class in the Rap world gives Kendrick Lamar a bigger voice. He’s always been one to use it for the better, speaking on things that go on in his community and trying to set an example for those who might walk the wrong path in life. His goal is to encourage people to do better and he’s said in the past, if he could touch one person, he’s done his job.

In talking to MTV, he says he’s seen protests growing up in Compton and in the wake of the backlash against police across the United States, he knows that some of the people listening might feel down because of the world we live in today. “i” is a catchphrase to help those folks, no matter what race, sex or social class you live in.

As far as being a role model, he’s going to keep doing what he’s doing, creatively with the music, and bringing his perspective on life in his songs.

He always grew up about knowing about the violence against police from his Pops, learning about that from an early age. Now he’s trying to arm the little homies with knowledge to combat the problem in different way, rather than pick up a pistol.
