Drake Fails To Capture No. 1 Spot on Billboard Because of Apple

Drizzy was so close

Although Drake has set records on Billboard for the most hits landing on Billboard, the Toronto rapper has failed to do one thing throughout his successful career: get the number one spot on the charts. It looked like he was going to dethrone The Weekend‘s “The Hills” with his surprising smash hit “Hotline Bling” as it climbed all the way to No. 2 in the Hot 100.

Unfortunately, the video didn’t help the cause (not because of the actual video, considering it was the most talked about visual for a week), because he released it on Apple Music rather than YouTube. Apple’s streaming service doesn’t report their streaming numbers to Neilsen Soundscan, therefore nullifying any views he may have received to bump it to No. 1 like if it would have been released on VEVO/YouTube.

With Adele‘s new single “Hello” set to takeover the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 next week, it seems as if though Drake will peak at No. 2, missing his window for a No. 1 hit on the Billboard charts.

Views From the 6 might change that, though. There’s still time for Drizzy to snag the crown.
