Why did Hot 97 and Cipha decide to split?
In a recent sit-down with Reggie Ossie & Premium Pete on The Combat Jack Show, Cipha Sounds finally opens up on his recent departure from Hot 97. After starting as Funkmaster Flex’s intern on the rush hour 17 years ago, he soon worked his way up the ranks to eventually land his own show. While his contributions to the station may have gone overlooked, he’s already planning future workings; including linking back up with JAY Z for Roc Nation.
During the conversation, Ciph touched on the summer departure of Angie Martinez Power 105, which enabled him to take over her 3:00pm slot on an intern basis. In comparison to having freedom on satellite radio on Sirius Shade 45 before his Hot 97 promotion some time ago, he opened up on having less creative freedom in the afternoon slot and closed out revealing whether or not the station is transitioning to pop.
