‘Welcome to Death Row’ is Being Shopped as Sequel to ‘Straight Outta Compton’

The popular 2001 documentary could see an official movie!

Two weeks ago, it was reported that an official Straight Outta Compton sequel was in the works; to focus the careers of N.W.A. off-springs 2pac, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg and Suge Knight. However, Universal Pictures immediately denied involvement in a project, saying there were no plans for a continuation of the story. In light of SOC’s box office success of nearly $150 million in box office revenue, APA is shopping their 2001 documentary-turned-book, Welcome to Death Row, as a sequel to the summer-hit.

While music rights are serious roadblocks, original documentary contributor S. Leigh Savidge (co-executive producer of COMPTON) could indeed see the project getting picked up for an inevitable green light. The film would obviously center on the rise and fall of the world’s most notorious record label during the 1990s; which would likely feature Makaveli, The Outlawz, Johnny J, DJ Quik, Danny Boy, DPGC’s and the rest of the family.

We’re just curious if the potential spin-off will have a same portrayal of Death Row Records during its peak years of 1995 and 1996 – like we saw in Straight Outta Compton.
