The Tupac Shakur Biopic Has a New Director

Thank you, Benny Boom!

For the last three years, the Tupac Shakur biopic with Morgan Creek Productions has been something rather difficult to come to fruition. Today, it’s now being reported that Benny Boom, music video and commercial director, has been tapped to helm the lens for the late rappers biopic.

Given the half-a-billion success of the NWA film, Straight Outta Compton, the film for Mr. Shakur and his mysterious death is inching closer to finally receiving a green light for production.

Carl Franklin was previously set to direct the film beginning at the end of the year in Atlanta, but with the music rights returning to the late Bay Area rapper’s mother Afeni Shakur in a few weeks, the company is looking to move forward immediately with productions.

John Singleton also was originally scheduled to write and direct the motion picture last year, but backed out publicly and soon criticized M.C.P. in a social media rant.

Look for more details in the coming weeks regarding the long-awaited movie.

I am blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime. Telling the story of this revolutionary, artist, visionary, genius, soldier! I will make him proud and uphold the legacy.

Benny Boom.
