“The Grass Is Greener” [Documentary]

The green rush continues

VICE has done more than a fair share of documentaries exploring the booming business in Colorado and states where marijuana is legal for recreational purposes and in Grass Is Greener, we see an update of what’s going on.

Up to this point, Colorado has seen tax revenue jump to ridiculous margins thanks to the weed industry, but it’s not all good for these companies. Marijuana is still illegal on the federal level, which makes it hard for them to manage without banks. Everything is done in cash transactions and puts their businesses at risk to violent crime. Old laws from the ’80s are essentially making these business surrender up to 85% of their profits to the federal government, crippling businesses and pretty much making some of them shut down.

The documentary doesn’t spend time in all the bad, though. They show how diverse the industry can be. From the Cannabis Cup hosted by High Times to the investor convention and how night and day those two events are. Stoners vs. suits all in it for the same purpose. To make money off weed.

They also explore how Canada is affecting business in the United States and how the market out there is a ways ahead of anything that’s being done in our country.
