With the recent emergence of high-fashion in hip hop, streetwear has become the second option for some of today’s biggest artist. The culture is now starting to embrace a wave of overseas high-end fashion brands, from footwear to apparel, diversifying and breaking hip hops known street image. Artist like Kanye West, Pharrell, new comer A$AP rocky and a couple others, have opened up a lane for fashion lovers in hip hop, from working with some of todays top clothing designers, to the many brand collaborations, they are definitely providing a new angle to the game.
Although Streetwear isn’t quite as cherished as it once was, the streetwear cultures pioneers are still making major power moves. Brands such as Stussy,Supreme,BAPE, Diamond Supply,10.Deep, and many others have kept on with being some of the top brands in the game, but San Francisco-based brand Black Scale is having a great break-out year. Black Scale has been around for about 5 years, and has always been very respected as one of the Bay Area’s streetwear pioneers alongside HUF. The brand is having as outstanding year, with all of their recent accomplishments, and being embraced by some of the biggest fashion influences in today’s hip hop, the A$AP Mob.
Yesterday, at the 2012 Columbus, Ohio Obama rally, Brooklyn’s own Jay-z showed up to support the President with a special performance, rocking the new Black Scale Rebellious Hoodie. Hov took a day off from the suit and tie and showed streetwear some love, giving Black Scale one of their biggest product placement looks yet. This isn’t the first time Hov has been seen rocking the brand, but this definitely the biggest platform. This is not only a win for the good folks over at Black Scale, this is also a big win for the streetwear culture as a whole, making everyone aware that STREETWEAR ISN’T DEAD !
