Next year, the King of Late Night, David Letterman will be retiring from The Late Show after a 21 year run; completing the longest tenure for any late night host on network TV. Letterman had been contemplating retirement for the last few years after renewing only for a one-year extension on his most recent, as many saw the end of an era approaching.

Dave took time to make the announcement earlier vaguely stating that he would finally be leaving the show sometime in 2015. While his replacement hasn’t been announced yet, there are names currently being thrown in the mystery hat as his successor for next year. Whether the Late Show with Conan O’Brien happens (currently on CBS sub-network TBS) remains to be seen, we’re hoping suitable replacement in the likes of Chris Rock or Tina Fey happens.

Rival network NBC’s fresh from the retiring of Jay Leno last February, which Jimmy Fallon moved the Tonight Show back to 30 Rock and long-time SNL writer Seth Meyers filed his shoes in Late Night. CBS is now on the clock to find the successor in the next few months. Check below to watch the retirement announced, then let us know below who should replace Letterman.
