Wale – Sunshine (Remix) (feat. Rick Ross & Common)

SunshineRemix

Wale revisits his 2013 release The Gifted, as he drops the remix to the Tone P and Stokley Williams produced track “Sunshine,” with added features from Rozay and Common. All three emcees give you poetry about the sunshine in their life at this point in time and they definitely flipped the remix to that feel-good New Black Soul!

Look out for Wale’s next studio album, The Album About Nothing set to impact later this year.

Common – The Ladder

Common

9-the-ladder-common

As you’ve seen this entire week, Game Of Thrones has been putting out Rap songs in anticipation for the fourth season of the HBO series. We can only imagine King Joffrey sitting at his throne on Casterly Rock bumping Daddy Yankee and Jon Snow losing his virginity to that cute redhead while Magazeen plays in the background.

Regardless, one of the gems from the Catch The Throne mixtape is the Common track based on the show, “The Ladder.” If we had to compare it to one of the characters it would probably be Lord Ned Stark right before, well, you know. Do remember, this is just a teaser for Com’ before that Nobody Smiling album impacts.

If you want to listen to the rest of the project, you can head over to Soundcloud and check out the remaining tracks.

NFL Set To Ban Use Of The N-Word

Next season, the NFL will be adopting a new rule in place to ban usage of the N-word during games on-field. John Wooten, of The Fritz Pollard Alliance has revealed the league is set in place for a permanent banning of the word before the 2014 season begins. Uttering the word will result in an immediate 15-yard penalty for offensive and defense players.

Some may say the infamous Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin saga may have been the final straw for the league to put a ban to the word, but we’re certain it won’t stop the word being thrown around in the locker room. While other professional leagues are waiting to adapt the new penalty as well, the NFL’s next mission is to look into homophobic slur banning.

After the jump, you can watch Common featured on this week’s episode of Outside The Lines, as he examine the new ban and the word with Michael Wilbon and Jason Whitlock.

Common – Made In Black America (feat. Ab-Soul)

These two spitters on the same track? Yeah, we weren’t expecting this to smack us in the face with this today. The best part is Common and Ab-Soul taking it to that Control System x BE vibe with it. While you vibe with the track, just know Soulo is on the last verse. If you’re anything like us, we were waiting for him to come in the whole time.

Do remember, Common’s 10 studio album Nobody Smiling drops later this year.

After announcing his upcoming album Nobody Smiling and revealing the first single from the sessions titled “War,” Common‘s recent interview with VIBE is continuing to present itself. Throughout the latest piece of the conversation, the Chicago artist decided to speak on many of the newer artists coming out of his city, mentioning that the likes of Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Lil Bibby and Lil Herb are among some of his current favorites. Part of his liking towards Chance is down to the fact he raps with flavor, using his voice in different ways to have fun with the songs, while adding cleverness at the same time.

Just a few hours following that announcement that Common would have No I.D. to exclusively produce his entire 10th studio album, Nobody Smiling, the two have decided to unleash new material leading up to the project. Common revealed earlier that it would be a concept album addressing the current high crime rate in Chicago and the rest of the world. He pilots the album’s campaign tonight, coincidentally, with a new track entitled “War.”

No I.D.’s on the production, so let the story begin.

2014 is already looking promising for hip-hop, as Common will be returning to release his tenth album entitled Nobody Smiling. The project was originally set to be an EP, but he decided to make it into a full-length album that will be helmed by No I.D.

Common sits down with REVOLTTV to breakdown the album’s background; which he explains is centered on not only violence in his hometown of Chicago, but within all inner-cities in the rest of the world (hence: Nobody Smiling). In his interview, he also praises the new crop of Chicago artists for their diversity in sound.

Common – I Want You (Kaytranada Remix)

kaytranada

Common may have released his acclaimed Finding Forever album over six years ago now, but there’s no doubting its relevance in hip-hop to this day, which could arguably be thanks to a man named Kanye West. Kaytranada has decided to revisit that very project for a remix of his own, with the will.i.am-featured “I Want You” being the producer’s specific choice. Thanks to the addition of notable bass and satisfying synths, we can’t get enough of the latest edition to his catalog.

Robert Glasper‘s Black Radio 2 album might be about a month away from release, but the Jill-Scott assisted “Calls” single has been in rotation lately. For his latest, he recruits Common and Patrick Stump for the uplifting “I Stand Alone.” Backed by a piano, Common blesses the track with two verses and a positive message. Pay attention to the outro too, there are wise words in there about following excellence in musicianship.

Common – Fine China (Remix)

common

Who would have thought Common and Talib Kweli would have remixed a Chris Brown record the same year? All we need is for Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey, to hit us with a remix of his own. Granted, this “Fine China” single is hot, though.

Common did his thing, and even got DJ Dummy and 9th Wonder to give the track a Michael Jackson twist, with a smooth break after right before his verse.

Com is lowkey, creeping back up into the rap mix.
