Was this the right move, Washington?
The Robert Griffin III off-season saga has surprisingly come to an end. Just days before the Washington Redskins look to reshape their offensive-line at the NFL Draft this Thursday, the team has officially decided to keep RG3 as their franchise QB – exercising a fifth-year option for the former college stand-out player.
Including his base $3.27 million salary, he’s set to make $16.2 million in the 2016 season, meaning he’ll be the team’s QB for the next two seasons. After a disappointing year with first year head coach Jay Gruden, Griffin was heavily engaged in a starting QB battle with Colt McCoy and Kirk Cousins.
After finishing with a horrendous 4-12 record last year, the team is looking to have resurgence in the now far less competitive NFC East. Robert still managed to pass for nearly 1,700 yards in just nine games and dealt with a lingering ankle injury for the entire season. Now being healthy for arguably the first time ever in his career, RG3 is looking to resurrect his career on the team that took a chance on a Heisman Trophy.
