The Washington Redskins Officially Bench Robert Griffin III for Colt McCoy

Washington seriously needs somebody to properly run their team

The Robert Griffin III tenure in Washington may hopefully be coming to an end. After betting the house on RG3 in 2012 trading away their first round picks for 2013 and 2014, to draft him as the no. 2 overall player behind Andrew Luck, the team gambled on an injured and very talented player from Baylor College.

He would miss essentially two years of college due to an ACL tear in 2009; then in his rookie season during 2012, RG3 would tear both the ACL and LCL ligaments in his right knee. After seeing limited action winning only 3 games in 13 starts last season, the former Baylor superstar saw an unfortunately sophomore slump.

This season, however, he would see big hits during extended pre-season play, which continued to week two against the Jacksonville Jaguars where he dislocated his left ankle. Back-up QB, Colt McCoy was inserted into the team during week 7 against the Tennessee Titans, and rallied the team back to an impressive 19-7 win. The following week, Washington would see success once again, in a major overtime victory against the Dallas Cowboys.

“While one Washington team sacrificed success in a playoff run to ensure the long-term health of their star player (Strasburg), another Washington team sacrificed the long term health of their star player for the sake of a playoff appearance (RGIII).”

With Washington at 3-5, they had some hope for a post-season wildcard spot, but that was all lost when RG3 returned to action week 9. Since his return back to the field, the Redskins have lost 3 consecutive games and are essentially eliminated from the playoffs. Griffin’s three-game tryout has come to an end, with management and coaches officially revealing McCoy will be the starter for this Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Colt has seen more success than RG3 and Kirk Cousins combined this season, with a 2-0 record. Hopefully, this recent benching enables Robert to finally get healthy, because he has no trade-value at the moment.

Let us know in the comments below what the Redskins or RG3 should do to save his career.
