At last, those die-hard passionate Seattle basketball fans only have to watch Miami Heat games for a few more months as the Sacramento Kings have finally been sold to a Seattle-based group of investors led by hedge-fund manager Chris Hansen and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. The group plans to buy the kings for $500 million with plans for the team to immediately start playing in Seattle’s Key Arena beginning next season.
The Kings had been rumored to move to Virginia Beach for the last year off and on as yesterday all talks fell apart when Virgiania Gov. Bob McDonnell cited a deal proposed by the Maoloof’s starting at $426 million completed taxpayer-funded was too much for a non-consistent profitable team.
In October, The King County and Seattle City Council agreed to build a new $490 million dollar basketball and hockey arena for the city named the “The SoDo Arena” as we can expect the currently named Kings to move their in time for the 2015-16 season.
Known for legally having both “Weed & Brew,” we’re curious how much the life DeMarcus Cousins will change as the fans now can rejoice over basketball returning their city; and whether or not management sticks with the Kings name, we hope they don’t take heed from New Orleans’ latest flop.--
