Stanford Cardinal Advances To Sweet 16 In 60-57 Upset Victory Over Kansas Jayhawks.

The final day of opening weekend 2014 March Madness started with an upset from Stanford defeating Kansas. The Cardinal’s now advance to the sweet 16 in Memphis for a match-up against Dayton, who also had a big upset in their victory last night against Syracuse.

Heading into today’s game, many predicted the Jayhawks as an automated advancement to the Sweet 16, but Stanford came in with a chip on their shoulders to stop the slashing of Andrew Wiggins and company, limiting the backcourt to less than 10 points collectively.

The freshman phenom Wiggins had a bad outing scoring only 4 points (going 1-6 from the field), as the Stanford zone defense was the x-factor throughout this game.

More on the big upset story after the jump.

While senior Tarik Black was the only starter in double digits, Conner Frankamp provided some spark off the bench netting the Jayahwawks only three-pointers for the entire tournament. An eye raising stat however was the Cardinal team going 0-9 from deep, but their starters dominated the point production playing collectively as a unit in their under-the-radar outing. All eyes now transition to Andrew Wiggins and whether he will stay for a sophomore season to forgo the 2014 NBA Draft (our best advice) or jump to the pro’s and become a top 5 pick.
