Russell Wilson & Seattle Seahawks End Contract Dispute with 4-Year/$87M Extension

$31 million signing bonus + $60 million guaranteed!

After months of having a private rift with pay, Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks have finally agreed to a multi-year extension. The new deal is reportedly worth $87.6 million and is for four years, so any questions on whether the team would franchise tag him next season is out the window. The 26-year-old was scheduled to make just $1.54 million this season and could’ve been tagged next February. This new deal now puts Wilson right behind Aaron Rodgers as the second highest paid QB, who makes $22 million a season.

After leading the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, Seattle has their core collective returning for another serious post-season run – unfortunately, the Packers and Aaron Rodgers will be completely healthy this year. The team has spent recent time locking up key players Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Doug Baldwin, and Michael Bennett to long-term extensions; but now they look to climb over the hurdle of their nightmare goal line drive, that resulted in New England stealing the game away to win the big game.

With the league’s best defense and run game lingering as a security blanket, many have felt that Wilson is an average QB with a super team surrounding him. Last season, the Seahawks had the 6th worse team passing statistics, and were an average receiving team – in comparison to other teams. The $22 million a year observed from Wilson now puts the franchise under a tough spot in maintaining other key players: Michael Bennett, Kam Chancellor, Bobby Wagner, Russell Okung and Bruce Irvin.
