Russell Westbrook Is Out 4 Weeks With Fractured Right Hand

UPDATE: All-Star Thunder PG Russell Westbrook had surgery to repair a broken bone in right hand and will now be sidelined 4-6 weeks.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were already depleted to start the season without reigning MVP Kevin Durant in the starting lineup after injuring his foot (not to mention Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb), but more bad news has hit the the organization on Thursday night. Russell Westbrook suffered a small fracture of the second metacarpal in his right hand going up for a rebound in the second quarter of their matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers at STAPLES Center.

The injury happened when his hand bumped into Kendrick Perkins elbow going up for the ball, grimacing shortly after coming down from the play. He exited the game in the middle of the quarter and went straight to the locker room where x-rays were taken and showed the fracture.

On his way into the tunnel he was heckled by a fan and he immediately responded in anger as his emotions were high. He returned to the bench with ice on his hand, but left again following the end of the quarter. As of now, no date has been set for his return.

The Thunder lost the game on the road to the Clippers 93-90.
