Peyton Manning Breaks NFL Career Touchdown Record

Favre is now #2

It’s crazy to think, but just a few years ago, Peyton Manning had spinal fusion surgery and there was a chance he might not ever play football again. Tonight, he set the all-time record for touchdown passes in a career, surpassing Brett Favre and throwing his 509th career scoring pass against the San Francisco 49ers.

The touchdown came in the red zone, as he found Demaryius Thomas cutting to the sideline and squeezing in for the 8-yard touchdown with only three minutes left before halftime. The pass gave the Denver Broncos a comfortable 21-3 lead that the 49ers never recovered from, on their way to a 42-17 win at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, CO.

After the pass, Peyton could be seen shrugging off the play, that was until his teammates and coaches came to congratulate him on the accomplishment and bask in the glory. Cheerleaders broke out in their 509 shirts, the Broncos horse ran down the field waving the 509 flag and the entire stadium gave Peyton a standing ovation while a special message played on the jumbotron, in a truly special moment.

Funny enough, his receiving core of Emmanuel Sanders, Julius Thomas and Wes Welker played keep away with Manning and didn’t want to give him the game ball right after he set the record, but he got to hold it for a minute before the ball was hauled off and taken to Canton, OH to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Manning ended the night with 4 TD’s on 314 yards passing in Sunday Night Football win, to bring the Broncos record to 5-1.
