During a Blue vs. White Team USA scrimmage in preparation for the FIBA World Cup earlier tonight, Paul George suffered what appeared to be a broken leg on a very horrific and unfortunate play as he attempted to block a James Harden layup on a fast break. The play happened 27 seconds into the fourth quarter and resulted in the cancellation of the rest of the game.

The injury happened on his lower right leg and it was gruesome, to say the least. Mike Krzyzewski, Paul’s family and medics rushed to the scene, as teammates looked on in anguish while his leg was put in an air cast and later stabilized with pins.

George was taken to a nearby Las Vegas hospital where he underwent surgery, but doctors refused to give out any more information until the operation was complete. The Indianapolis Star reported PG24 suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula and will be hospitalized for the next two to three days.

UPDATE: Reports indicate that Paul George will most likely miss the entire 2014-2015 season.

As Brian Windhorst points out, the FIBA basket stanchions appear to be closer than regular NBA standard courts, which is how Paul George buckled his leg at the base.

We send our prayers for Paul George and his family.
