Young team with potential

The Orlando Magic may be down at the bottom of the league currently, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have some of the pieces to carry them into the future. Especially in the Eastern Conference. The organization has now added an integral piece after months of search and named former Magic player Scott Skiles their next head coach.

Skiles takes over a team that boasts a young core, consisting of Elfrid Payton, Aaron Gordon, Nik Vucevic and Victor Oladipo (with Tobias Harris as a free agent and status up in the air).

Coach Skiles has coached the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks in his career and amassed to a 443-433 overall coaching record in his tenure on the sidelines. His best years came in Chicago and Phoenix, where he helped the Suns tally a 51 win season in 2000-01 and the ended the Bulls’ six-year postseason drought with three consecutive playoff appearances.

The Magic hold the 5th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, so their next move will be to sort out the Harris situation and figure out who they’re going to pick to either replace, or further enhance the dynamic of their young squad.
