Is Cinco de Mayweather inching closer to reality?

Last Friday, before Showtime’s WBC Silver Welterweight battle between Amir Khan and Devon Alexander, Floyd Mayweather made shock waves throughout the boxing world officially calling out Manny Pacquiáo. After retaining his WBO welterweight title a few weeks ago previously undefeated standout fighter Chris Algieri, the fight that should’ve happened 7 years ago was once again being teased.

With Freddi Roach (Pacman’s trainer) even citing Bob Arum and Manny as the reason for the fight never happening over the summer, Pacquiáo issued a formal response to Money saying he has nowhere to run. In the past, the main road block holding up this fight was contract complications, blood testing and urine issues; but now both fighters are nearing the preliminary stages of coming to an official contract deal.

As fans and the media await the next step, Pacquiao is now once again placing pressure on Mayweather and his camp to make history happen in the biggest pay-per-view ever. The 50/50 money split is unlikely to happen, but we’re sure blood testing is now the only reasoning that can stand in the way of the May 2nd epic fight.

“He has reached a dead end. He has nowhere to run but to fight me. I will try my best to make this a thrilling and entertaining fight. But I doubt if he’s gonna engage me in a slugfest. You all know his fighting style. Most of his previous fights, if not all, induced us to sleep. Mayweather can get the amount he wants. As early as January this year, I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight. This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy and, above all, this is for the good of boxing.”
