Cleveland ensures return to Conference Finals with latest re-signing

During the Eastern Conference Playoffs, LeBron James was virtually left on an island to fend for himself with an array of role players. Due to season-ending injuries from both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, Cleveland soon looked to help of Tristan Thompson to step up and provide some much-needed defensive help, alongside quality big man Timofey Mozgov – something they missed throughout the season. Although the duo of Thomson and Mosgov provided the best interior defense, the team will still see their best offensive efficiency with Kevin Love.

Earlier today, Kevin Love debunked rumors of a potential exit, revealing he had agreed to terms on a new $110 million deal with the Cavaliers. Brian Windhorst has now reported the team is nearing an agreement on a deal a new 5-year deal with Tristan Thompson, reportedly worth over $80 million.

The re-signing ensures the core collective remains in-tact alongside Kyrie Irving and LeBron James, who’s expected to sign his deal with Cleveland in the coming days. The team is still looking to unloaded the $10.5 million non-guaranteed contact of Brendan Haywood, which enable the two max deals to be completed next week.
