The Warriors are in good hands

The Golden State Warriors front office finally swallowed their pride and made the wise decision of keeping the “Splash Brothers” together for the long haul today, by giving Klay Thompson his requested max deal. The two parties had gone back and forth for some time now but with the Friday deadline quickly approaching and a new television contract on the way for owners, the agreement was finalized this afternoon.

Is Klay worth the 4-year, $70M extension? If you have to ask the question, you must have missed an entire year of basketball. Thompson averaged a career high last season (18.4 PPG) and played a contributing role as Team USA steam rolled the globe during the FIBA games adding 12.7PPG while shooting 41.7% from behind the arc.

Scary thing about that FIBA run is it gave the “Splash Brothers” more time to develop chemistry on and off the court. As the proven future of the franchise, that is invaluable. This had to play some part into the Warriors declining all offers for Thompson over the summer, including the Kevin Love option that became available after Lebron announced he would be returning to Cleveland.

As the season opens, the Warriors look to build on their success from the last postseason with Steve Kerr at the helm. It doesn’t hurt to have such a great shooter drawing up plays for two of the best sharpshooters in the league today.

Something tells us we’re going to be hearing “Hand Down. Man Down” for years to come.
