KC Royals Bounce Back At Home With 7-2 Win Against SF Giants

The San Fransisco Giants made a big statement in Game 1 of the World Series by dominating and winning 7-1 against the home team Kansas City Royals. Although nobody expected that to happen, the Giants proved why they should not be counted out in the series, even if the Cinderella team was the favorite going into the game.

Game 2 was a little different. If you thought the momentum was swinging towards San Francisco, think again. The Royals took that back-against-the-wall mentality and bounced back.

The game started all Giants, though. In the first inning, Gregor Blanco sent a jack to right field to put San Francisco on the board early, but Kansas City answered in the bottom of the 1st after Billy Butler singled to left center and brought Lorenzo Cain in to tie the game.

The good hitting against Jake Peavy continued in the 2nd inning for the Royals, as Alcides Escobar hit a double to right, which helped Omar Infante score to put KC up 2-1.

Rookie Yordano Ventura pitched a solid game, but gave up another run to the Giants in the 4th, when Pablo Sandoval huffed and puffed his way home from second after a Brandon Belt double. The score was tied at two and we had a game on our hands.

That was until the 6th inning when all hell broke loose for the Royals on a 5-run inning. In an inning that saw 5 pitchers (4 from the bullpen) come out for San Francisco, Kansas City hit the lights out. Hits by Butler, Salvador Perez and a 2-run jack by Omar Infante put the Royals 7-2 and the lead was too much for the Giants to catch up to.

Jean Machi, Javier Lopez and Hunter Strickland had only 12 pitches between the three in relief of Peavy, and it wasn’t until Jeremy Affeldt hit the mound that the Giants escaped the 6th inning down 5 runs. It was a complete meltdown, but we’re still baffled at why the Giants would swap out so many pitchers in one inning.

The Royals cruised with the lead to finish the game, something fans wanted to see at home following the great run KC had in the playoffs thus far. Now the hope for them is that they take that momentum out West with them as they take on three back-to-back road games.

Game 3 of the World Series will be played Friday, October 24 at 8:07 PM EST on FOX.
