The former NBA Finals MVP becomes the Blueprint for San Antonio

Although Kawhi Leonard dealt with injury issues throughout the season, he still finished 2015 as Defensive Player of the Year. Averaging 16 points, 7 boards and 2 assist, the lengthy 6-foot-7 small-forward has been the cornerstone player of the San Antonio Spurs future under Gregg Popovich. The team wasted no time locking up their 24-year-old all-star to a maximum contract extension of five-years and $90 million dollars.

After winning NBA Finals MVP, the quiet star immediately ensured his stay with the spurs for the long-term with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili taking a backseat to the rising player at the time. Now with Leonard locked up, the Spurs move immediate focus to LaMarcus Aldridge, who’s been their radar for the last few years as the successor to the greatest power forward of all-time.

Spurs management and players are set to meet with Aldridge this morning in Los Angeles to likely convey him in an attempt at selling a multiple champions down the line – they’re good for it.
