Jameis Winston Suspended by Florida State For Obscene Comments

Jameis Winston to miss first half of this Saturday’s game

Former Heisman Trophy winner, Jameis Winston has added another strange page to his Florida State story today. The quarterback has been suspended by coach Jimbo Fisher for the first half of Saturday’s ACC matchup vs. Clemson for apparently standing on a table in the middle of campus yelling “an obscene sexual phrase.” By nature sounds like a high school kid getting in trouble by the principal in the cafeteria, which is a bit funny. But given some of the incidents in Winston’s past, maybe he should stay away from comments such as, “”F*** her right in the p***y!”

The FSU leader took full responsibility:

“First of all, I want to apologize to the university, my coaches and to my teammates,” Winston said. “I’m not a ‘me’ person, but in that situation, it was a selfish act and that’s not how you do things around here. I want to apologize to my teammates because I have now made a selfish act for them. That’s all.”

During the press conference, coach Fisher also added:

“You can’t make certain statements that are derogatory or inflammatory to any person, race or gender. You have to understand that. You have to be very intelligent about what you say, (because) it matters.”

Although the suspension is not extensive, it is definitely not what the team needs heading into the ACC opener as the number one ranked team in the country. Hopefully, Winston takes this in stride and uses it as an opportunity to continue to mature. His talent has never been questioned, we just don’t want these issues to cloud the minds of NFL GM’s when it is time for him to take his rightful place in the league.

Focus Jameis. Focus.

UPDATE: Jameis Winston has now been suspended the entire game against Clemson by Florida State instead of just the first half. The change of heart comes only days after an investigation was underway and in the midst of backlash towards the school for not implementing a harsher punishment.
