Is The NBA Considering Adding A 4-Point Shot?

jrnd

The NBA is an evolving game, changing numerous times over the past decades, but it might be changing again. ESPN recently sat down with NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn and they brought up the potential of adding a 4-point shot to the NBA game. To much surprise, Thorn apparently wasn’t taken back by the question, revealing that the idea had been thrown around in NBA meetings.

Thorn said that with the shooters in the league today, adding a 4-point shot from 28-30 feet out would be no issue and that the transition would be smooth.

The real question then becomes, would the NBA actually do this? It would be a major splash for new commissioner Adam Silver and a way for him to really make his mark on the league. In our eyes, we are still not sure how this would work or if it’s a good idea. Something about “Ray Allen for FOOUUURRRRRRR,” just doesn’t sit right with us.

If the NBA did make a 4-point shot who do you think would be the best at it? Jamaal Crawford? Kevin Durant? Let us know after the jump!

OS REWIND: Should The NFL Get Rid Of Extra Points?

“Oh man,” Thorn told Abbott, “Some of the players we have can shoot the ball from I assume it would be 30 feet? 28-30 feet. Somewhere in there. Some of the guys we have can shoot that as easily as a 23-, 24-foot shot.” One of those players? Vince Carter. Thorn recalled a moment when he ran the New Jersey Nets from 2000 to 2010 as team president and general manager. As players tend to do at practice, Carter would showcase his shot-making abilities from far, far away.
