New WBC Lightweight Champion Broner Makes First Title Defense. No PPV Tonight, Head To HBO For This One!

Word to the homie Hit-Boy, we talking big money! Right after you’re done watching the Beyoncé’s “Life Is But a Dream” documentary; you can keep it on HBO as immediately following the most anticipated event of the week, we’ll see an epic bout featuring WBC Lightweight champion Adrien Broner defending his belt against “The Rock,” Gavin Rees.

Coming into tonight’s fight, Broner is the obvious favorite being one of the most completely balanced fighters in all of boxing from his orthox stance showcasing both offensive but more impressive defensive. Some may say that Broner’s nearly invincible in the ring and right now that may be true as he dismantled his only real competition in the lightweights in Antonio Demarco.

As Adrien remains pound for pound the number one lightweight in the world as well as 6th overall in boxing by Ring Magazine, I expect his undefeated streak at 25-0 to continue tonight. Rees (37-1), who’s a top 10 lightweight United Kingdom; still does have a chance to shock the world and more importantly the Vegas odds betters as his only chance of winning will be trying to keep Broner on his heels and stay off balanced the entire fight. Like Floyd Mayweather Jr, Broner mirrors his stance in the ring which makes him virtually un-hittable due to his extremely defensive talent.

Realistically, we can’t see this fight going past the 6th round if Rees doesn’t show up to win as Adrien will one in convincingly fashion. The fight everyone wants to see is Broner defend against Yuriorkis Gamboa but recent allegations in usage of PED’s have hindered the fight from happening. If Broner knocks out Reese, we definitely would want to see him move to the 140lbs class with talent from the likes of Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Brandon Rios all waiting in the wings for a bout.
