A historic night in Green Bay

We can’t remember a Thanksgiving without a Green Bay Packers game and yesterday was no different. The only difference between this and past years was the amazing ceremony the team gave not only Brett Favre on his number retirement night, but Bart Starr, who was celebrated in a standing ovation when he took the field.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer made his return to Lambeau Field for the first time since suffering multiple strokes last year, in what was a great moment in the history of the franchise, after Favre saw his number unveiled on the north end zone facade.

“I know we have to be quick, we have to finish this game, but it is Thanksgiving and we have so much to be thankful for. And as I think back to our time here in Green Bay, I certainly thank God for the opportunity to play a game I love and play it for a long time and in the best place to play football in the world.”

The best moment of the night was when Starr came out with his wife and stood up, looking at Favre right in front of him and the two embraced each other with a hug. You can feel the warmth in Lambeau Field even if the temperature outside was near freezing.

Brett talked during the broadcast about what it was like to leave the Packers back in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and the boos he felt when he return to the field in the Minnesota Vikings jersey. There were no boos on this night, though.

Although the current Green Bay lost a shocker at the hands of the Chicago Bears 17-13, this will always be the house that Favre built, breaking NFL records and setting franchise marks in multiple categories, leading the team to the elite status it sees today.

If you missed the ceremony when it aired, you can watch over on the NFL Youtube.
