The two-time All-Star is now the franchise record holder for all-time home-runs.

It’s pretty hard to believe that up until last night, Giancarlo Stanton had yet to to hit his first home run of the season. When he did so, it came with a little history, Miami Marlins history to be exact.

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is no doubt a power hitting phenom for the club, so it comes as no surprise that he set the all-time franchise home run record in the first inning Thursday night at Citi Field. Stanton hit a two-run blast off the New York Mets pitcher Dillon Gee for his 155th of his career, surpassing the previous holder of the record, Dan Uggla.

Although an impressive feat for Stanton, he wasn’t too thrilled about it for the time being, as he’s much more worried about the teams 7-5 loss to the Mets, that handed them their seventh loss of the season, where they now hold a 3-7 record — currently tied for last place with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets, who are currently on a 5-game winning streak, lead the NL East with a 7-3 record.

The two-time All-Star led the National League with 37 home runs last year, despite missing the last 17 games of the season due to multiple facial fractures, lacerations, and dental damage from taking a pitch to the face by Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers.

This past off-season, Stanton and the Marlins made sports history when they agreed on a deal that would pay him $325 million over 13 years. With that deal in place, we can only imagine that Giancarlo’s franchise home run record will increase to higher amounts, making him the clubs all time record holder for a very long time.

Giancarlo finished the night going 2-3, with 2 RBIs and a strikeout in the loss.
