Floyd Mayweather Will Fight Andre Berto on September 12

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Manny Pacquiao

There has been much speculation as to who Floyd Mayweather would be facing for the last fight of his illustrious career and he has decided on an opponent. Money Mayweather will face Andre Berto on September 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, to defend his welterweight world titles, which will air on Showtime Pay-Per-View at 8pm EST.

If he defeats Berto, Mayweather will tie the Rocky Marciano record of going 49-0, and end his 19-year career on top.

“I’m ready to get back in the ring on Sept. 12 and prove again to the whole world why I’m the best ever. I always bring my A-game, and this fight against Andre Berto is no exception. He’s a young, strong fighter who is hungry to take down the best. Forty-eight have tried before, and on Sept. 12, I’m going to make it 49.”

The fight has been announced only four months after the historic Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight, which went down as the richest in the history of the sport. It generated over $500 million and shattered PPV records, even after being the most expensive fight ever.

Berto comes in as a massive underdog with a record of 30-3 all-time and breaking even at 3-3 in his last six fights. Most would say he will be a safe bet and win for Mayweather, who passed up bouts with the likes of Amir Khan and Keith Thurman to fight Berto.
