Derrick Rose Targets Summer World Cup Return

Last Thursday, USA Basketball announced its initial 28-man pool, featuring 14 players from the 2012 U.S. Olympic and 2010 US World Championship teams. One of those players being re-selected was Chicago Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose.

In the last 3 seasons, Rose has been injury-plagued with an left knee ACL tear, and a torn meniscus in his right knee; which as limited him to only 50 games in the last 3 years. There was previous speculation that he would make his return to the Bulls during their opening round in the playoffs, but the recent trade of Loul Deng and an imminent summer amnesty of Carlos Boozer for this summer looming has Rose waiting next year to return in top form.

Tom Thibodeau shared comments regarding Rose’s future you can see below.

Thibodeau said Friday, If he’s healthy enough, I think it would be great for him. I know he feels the same way. I think that whole experience was tremendous for him (in the 2010 world championships). I know how strongly USA Basketball feels about him. If his health is there, I think it makes a lot of sense. Obviously, his health is the priority, He’s moving along well. he has to continue to be patient. But if he’s cleared to play, and it’s at the point where (playing in Spain) is the best thing for him, then I think he should do it.

Derrick Rose released a statement saying, I’m looking forward to getting back on the court this summer and having the chance to represent our country. It’s an honor to play for Team USA and (coach Mike Krzyzewski).
