Chris Rock’s Rant on the Current State of MLB & Lack of Black Interest

Chris Rock reveals why blacks have abandoned baseball

It’s no secret that MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is trying to do all he can in his short time at helm of baseball management to make the sport more contemporary among younger viewers, HBO presented a piece of how baseball has lost its touch with black people. With little league participation and MLB World Series viewing at an all-time low, Chris Rock is questioning why black people have no interest in the game of baseball anymore.

Being a life-long fan of the New York Mets, Rock soon touched on previous African-American baseball stars Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Mookie Wilson and Kevin Mitchell being players he looked up to of color; but has issues with the team’s having lack of diversity in today’s age.

The legendary Brooklyn comedian soon touched on the 2014 World Series Champions, San Francisco Giants having no black player on the team and cited the league is down to an 8% (two players per team). While baseball may be dying among blacks, owners had record revenues last season, Rock thinks his plan to incorporate more interest to youth can save the game from losing next-generation interest.

Watch more from the enlightening clip from Chris above, where he also goes into detail on how the MLB make themselves “more cool” with not only black people – but baseball fans in general.
