Adrián Beltré Ties MLB Record with Third Career Cycle

Beltré adds name in history books after completing third career cycle.

Up until last night, only two players have hit for the cycle during the 2015 MLB season. Texas Rangers‘ third baseman, Adrián Beltré was this season’s third, but his came with a little more history attached. The 36-year-old, 4x All-Star and 4x Silver Slugger Award winner, became just the fourth player in MLB history to hit for the cycle three times in MLB career. The other three being John Reilly, Bob Meusel and Babe Herman, all of whom had done so during the 1800 and 1900’s. Beltré stands alone as the only player to do so in the same ballpark.

Facing off against the AL West-leading Houston Astros, the game was a doozy from the start. During his first at-bat in the first-inning, Adrián belted a two-run triple into the gap in left-center, to secure possibly the hardest of the four hits to complete. His second at-bat in the second-inning, he would lock down the double, hitting the ball nearly into the same spot as his triple. It looked as though he could have gotten another triple, but Beltré stuck at second, settling for the two-bagger.

His single happened during his third at-bat in the third-inning, slapping a line drive into right field. Beltré’s fourth at-bat in the fifth-inning is when the magic happened. Seeing him rip the first pitch of the at-bat into the left-field stands to complete the cycle against the third Astros pitcher. After the game, Adrián would admit that he was looking to hit the home run during the at-bat saying: “Not going to lie, I was looking for a home run.”

The Rangers went on to defeat the Astros in the 12-9 victory, where Beltré went 4-5 with 3 RBIs. This only makes his case as a future hall of famer stronger, as if his career numbers wouldn’t had already secured that.
