Earlier last month, CBS won rights to NFL Thursday games for the upcoming 2014 season. The CBS purchase, worth $275 million is only a one-year deal with an opt-out for 2015. With the NFL garnering the most watched show in U.S. history for Super Bowl XLVIII, CBS will be looking to make their self-produced program a legitimate competitor to ESPN’s Monday Night and NBC’s Sunday Night. In comparison to previous years where Thursday games were limited to select weeks, CBS will be airing the first 8 games of the season, then transition the series to NFL Network for the remaining 8 games (also airing first 8 games simultaneously).
