A Conversation with the Atlanta Hawks

Ready to take the next step as legit title contenders?

Very few teams in the NBA put their personal pride and egos aside for the betterment of success within the NBA. While the San Antonio Spurs have proved that is the only way to become a dynasty in the post-Michael Jordan era, the Atlanta Hawks are playing some of the best basketball we’ve seen for regular season play in quite some time.

From having a two-headed monster inside the paint with Al Horford and Paul Millsap, a back-court shut down defender, an all-star point guard in Jeff Teague and one of the league’s most deadly shooters – the dirty birds are no longer under-the-radar and have become a legit threat in the NBA this year. Last year, the team was without their captain Horford and lost many games by single digits. The 2015 season has obviously been different, with the team currently on a 16-game winning streak and helming the league’s best overall record.

The humbled collective of starters join ESPN’s Mark Schwarz to discuss the success they’ve had so far this year. With their head coach Mike Budenholzer set to coach next month’s All-Star game, the team opened up putting the team first – whether or not anyone from their core is selected to the showcase. While the team doesn’t look like they’ll lose this week, they do have a major home game February 6th against the Golden State Warriors.
