Welcome to a new era: Premier Boxing Champions

Three weeks ago, Al Haymon piloted his new squared-circle promotion, Premier Boxing Champions. For its inaugural debut Adrien Broner defeated John Molina Jr. and Keith Thurman finally fought a respectable opponent in Robert Guerrero to retain his WBA Welterweight title. Seeing social media reaction on a Saturday night in the preliminary stages of March madness gave us assurance that boxing really isn’t dead – but being ran and presented in the wrong way. The PBC promotion is basically trying to save boxing and bring some casual viewers back to our favorite sport, in comparison to the diehard like us. As opposed to having pay-per-view events, PBC aired a network TV prime-time championship boxing bout, FREE, for the first time in 30 years.

With support of the three major networks (ABC, CBS, and NBC), Hayman is looking to capture the mainstream popularity UFC currently has with FOX Networks. So far, he’s taking baby steps into making his organization legit with well-known fighters and the support of his right-hand man Floyd Mayweather, Jr. after he retires within the next year. Continue after this page to find out how Al, in our opinion, is resurrecting boxing.
